Denene Shimkus

Denene is the coordinator of all programs at Champ Homes. Denene is originally from the South Shore area and moved to Cape Cod in 2013. Denene comes to Champ Homes with over 20 years of experience in the Human Service field. She has held a variety of positions, Case Manager for Day Habilitation Services, Manager of Vocational Services, and Administrator of Residential Services. She has devoted her career to the care of individuals with Mental Health, Developmental & Intellectual Disabilities, Substance Abuse histories, and those who have been Dually Diagnosed.

Denene has 19 years of supervisory experience and has participated in several Leadership Series that have helped refine her management style and core values to promote team development. Denene has successfully built organizational teams as well as created programming for individuals which have included sensory integration, basic sign language classes, peer to peer team building/self-advocacy, sobriety education and most recently PBS (Positive Behavioral Support) all within residential settings.

In addition to her on the ground experience, Denene has certifications in Behavioral Management Techniques, Medication Administration Practices, Sign Language (ASL), Person-Centered Goal development, Substance Abuse, Motivational Leadership and Effective Communication.

Denene’s other interests have included being active in Town Government. Prior to moving to Cape Cod, she volunteered as a committee member of Citizens for a Better Bridgewater. CBB assisted with educating the community on several town issues through blogging and informational sessions/meetings. Currently, Denene is a member of First Church (UCC) in Sandwich MA, where she teaches Liturgical dance to children and has helped develop a support group called S.O.A.R. Denene also enjoys the beaches of Cape Cod and yoga.
